How do you do this Algebra 1 word problem?
here is the problem: Two buses leave Toledo at the same time and travel in opposite directions. One bus averages 55mi/h and the other bus averages 45 mi/h. After how many hours will the buses be 400 mi apart? you have to define a variable, write an equation & solve it. i just need the equation. kk thanks ! :D

Bus 1 : 55mi/h Bus 2 : 45 mi/h The equation we are looking for is Distance of Bus 1 + Distance of Bus 2 = 400 We all know that distance = rate x time So.. Distance of Bus 1 after h hours is: 55h Distance of Bus 2 after h hours is: 45h Put that into the equation, we have 55h + 45h = 400 Solve.
